We bring our experience, history, and values to our work across the North West Province, ensuring that refugees receive the vital services and opportunities they need to thrive
NWHR is committed to diversity and inclusion. We do our work with integrity, accountability, transparency, and a commitment to the highest ethical standards.

We Welcome the Stranger “You shall love the stranger for you were strangers…”(Deuteronomy 10:19). We are told 36 times in the Torah to love those who are strangers. NWHR welcome begins at our door and extends through our work with refugees, partners, and allies around our province

We Pursue Justice “Justice, At NWHR, we seek justice every day. Justice demands that we act for fairness and equity for all.

We Approach our Clients with Empathy At NWHR, our clients come from diverse faiths, ethnicities, and backgrounds, and we understand that their stories are our story. We see our past and our future in their search for safety and a bright future.

We Believe in Changing the communities through Partnership “Two are better than one…For if one falls, the other will lift up their friend.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9). NWHR works humbly in partnership with others to create a more moral, ethical, and just Peaceful community for refugees. We collaborate with organizations and institutions that share our mission. We walk side by side with refugees and all those we serve, accompanying them in their journey toward safety and opportunity.

We Act with Courage to Build a Better refugees and Asylum seekers community At NWHR, we speak truth to power. We stand with courageous conviction for what is right and what will help the people we serve.

We Adapt and Thrive, Continuously Demonstrating our Resilience We are inspired every day by the resilience of refugees, asylum seekers, and displaced people.

We put People First

We are a loving, welcoming community – an extended family – where everyone has a voice and where every voice counts. We go the extra mile to walk beside newcomer community members on their settlement journey. At NWHR, we honour each story and embrace people’s traditions and cultures.

We are Agents of Change

At NWHR, we listen to community needs and work to make positive changes. Sometimes this means innovation and thinking “outside the box” to find a solution. Sometimes, it means having the courage to speak even when your voice shakes. And always, this means supporting and being an ally for all newcomers, regardless of status.

We are Holistic

NWHR all-inclusive, wrap-around model aims to meet the needs of newcomers at many levels including physical, social and emotional. Beginning with a safe place to call home, we provide whole family support and never give up on our children, youth or adults.

We value Integration

At NWHR, we believe integration is a two way street – this means that we assist newcomers to adapt to South African society and help host community adapt to our evolving society. We work to build bridges and connections between all communities.

We value Partnerships

At NWHR, we know we cannot work alone. We must reach out and build strong partnerships with those who share our values so that the newcomer community has good services and supports that work together for their benefit.
